Annette Lareau is the author of Unequal Childhoods: Social
Class, Race, and Family Life which was published last fall
by University of California Press. Her first book, Home
Advantage: Social Class and Parental Intervention in
Elementary Education, won the Willard Waller Award of the
Sociology of Education Section of the American Sociological
Association. In her most recent work, with Elliot
Weininger, she has been attempting to confirm the results of
her ethnographic study with the Child Development Supplement
of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics. During the 2003-2004
year Annette Lareau is a Visiting Scholar at New York
University; in the fall she will return to the Department of
Sociology at Temple University.
